This article is written expressly for those who have stepped back from their religious or evangelical beliefs and are looking for some answers or insight on how to see life and spirituality in a new way.
First, let’s acknowledge what a pivotal step you have taken. Somewhere, you opened yourself to see things more clearly or more truthfully, and once that happened, you discovered that all the pieces in your previous beliefs really did not fit together in the way you were told. It can become obvious that most of the pieces don’t really fit together at all, but you don’t see this until you step back and choose to see things from outside of the bubble they were created in.
In one form or another, you have been getting messages all your life about what is true, what is false and what is best for you. If you are reading this, it is likely you are at odds with some of those sources, so let’s just get to the point …
Nothing is Set in Stone, and Nobody Really Knows the Truth
The only reason you were entangled in a belief system in the first place is because two things happened:
- You were looking for somebody or something to provide you with all the answers and a set of rules and guidelines to follow so that you can find God and feel safe or connected to spirit.
- Somebody created a set of rules and guidelines to follow where they clearly defined how and what you must do to be accepted by their religion/belief system, and they established their system as something vital for you to follow to be blessed in this life and someday be with God.
You don’t have to go down that road again, and the best way to ensure that is to always remember that NOBODY knows the truth … including me!
I will share with you what I believe to be true to me today, but these beliefs are not set in stone. They are allowed to be fluid so that if something becomes clearer to me tomorrow, I can let go of how I saw that thing yesterday and embrace my new clearer perception. And I will then share that even clearer perception until it too is replaced by something that becomes even clearer some day.
The bottom line is that we are living in a spiritual fog, and a primary mistake made in the past, was to firmly grab onto a perceived truth like it was a rare diamond, and never let it go; never let it evolve, and never allow yourself to see past it. We will call that perceived truth, holy and sacred, and therefore it will be true and unchangeable, even thousands of years later. That is the birth of religion. That is the birth of a belief system.
Here’s a little story from an article I wrote some time back:
Just imagine that you could to go back 4000 years in time for just one moment. Upon entering a small village, you sit at the well and start showing people things from the future.
When you press a button and a flame instantly appears on your butane lighter, what is their response? They assume it is magic and that perhaps you are a god, an angel or even an evil spirit. They have responded the way they did because they did not have the history of related facts to help them understand what this object was. This has little to do with their level of intelligence, but it has a lot to do with them just not having had enough experience to understand things. The world was primitive and the thinking was primitive as well.
Knowing they can’t even begin to comprehend this simple butane lighter, are you going to believe the perception they have of you and the lighter or are you going to believe what history and knowledge has taught you to be true about yourself? It’s easy to see that just because they believe something to be true, doesn’t make it true, it just makes it what they believed was true, based upon the knowledge they had at the time.
If you are not going to believe what they think of a simple butane lighter, why would you even begin to believe their conclusions about God? Most of us understand that a butane lighter is something that contains a fuel of some sort and a lighting mechanism. There is no magic…it’s just science and mechanics. We understand this because of what we are learning today and because of what we have evolved to understand over thousands of years of history.
If we apply this same method of thinking to God, we would not put so much stock in what an ancient tribe told us God was. Instead, we would use our evolved knowledge and awareness of all we have learned through thousands of years to help us be open and willing to see things more clearly. Otherwise, we must always and forever conclude the butane lighter is magical and holy, or evil, no matter all the other evidence time and history provides us with, because that’s what they believed it was 4000 years ago and we are not allowed to disagree.
What then is truth? I believe truth is the absolute best we can perceive something at the time, while ensuring the ideas or concepts are loving, forgiving, and all inclusive. This means that truth is light and loving and nobody is exempt from experiencing the blessings of those truths for any reason, at any time.
So how do you differentiate between something that might be a good idea to follow or not? How do you know when a message, story, YouTube video, tweet, etc, is inspired by somebody who is sharing things more truthfully? I have a simple baseline phrase that I use as a reference for information I am exposed to:
God is a God of unconditional love. He does not teach through fear or use fear in any way.
Basically, this reference is a reminder that if any information being presented to me includes …
- fear as a motivation
- has time limits (another form of fear)
- suggests I need to be worried about something
- embraces ideas that are not loving and forgiving
- embraces any darks rights, such as hate, anger, eye for an eye, punishment, threats or anything deemed unkind
… it is not from our Creator, so I just ignore it and move along my way.
I know this can seem a bit difficult to accept when you have evangelical leaders or new-age spiritual leaders providing advice or prophesy that often includes warnings of doom, and requirements of things that MUST be done, by a certain time, etc . None of that is from our Creator or beings connected closely to our Creator.
One misperception that most people have is that if a message is channeled through a medium, spiritualist or evangelical, that information is immediately validated as being true because it comes from spirit or the other side. That isn’t true in the very least. The individuals providing those messages can be tapped into beings who may be no more, or even less enlightened than us. These un-enlightened beings interact through humans that share similar beliefs, and this opens the door to let them cross over into our reality with messages that are often not in our best interest, and not always based upon unconditional love.
When we leave our physical bodies, we return to our spirit awareness, and although we may be aware of more things in that reality, we are still somewhat who we are with respect to our knowledge of the truth. We still can carry our anger, limited points of view, concepts of what’s important, agendas, etc. Part of the reason we are here physically on Earth is to create experiences to help us better see the issues we have, and to be open for those less helpful aspects of ourselves to be healed.
So, when somebody taps into the other side, there is always the possibility to tap into beings that have their own agenda, and that is why there are so many different types of religions and beliefs, because there are so many different beings with their own agendas that we have tapped into and treated like they are gods or godlike. Yahweh is one of the bigger ones. He is not god, but acts as though he is and provides messages and direction to suit his own agenda, but it is not one of forgiveness and love. His agenda is one of obedience and being worshipped. See this article “Leaving Yahweh, a Warlike, Lying god” for more details about that.
There are higher and higher levels we attain as we become more and more enlightened, and there are many beings that are far, far above us in that respect. These beings are not better than us, but simply more whole and more aware of their true selves, and of the Creator.
So when a psychic taps into more enlightened beings, this may become apparent when the messages are expressions of love and hope, of blessings and helpful guidance. There will be an absence of warnings, negativity, timelines, requirements, dates and time. Why? Because our Creator is an eternal being who is not in any hurry and has no needs that must be taken care of. So when a message implies otherwise, it is not from our Creator.
There are many mediums or spiritualists that are tapped into truthful beings who are dedicated to helping us walk towards enlightenment. The key here is for anyone channeling, to examine their heart when they open themselves to spirit, and allow in only that which embraces a spirit of love and forgiveness for all.
For now, my biggest piece of advice for anyone looking to find what best feels true for themselves, is to focus on things that embrace concepts of forgiveness and unconditional love. One great source for this is “A Course in Miracles“. This book is broken into several sections of which I always recommend you focus on practicing the daily lessons in the section called “A Workbook for Students“. This book is basically a guide on being forgiving of all things and of learning to see and love your brothers unconditionally. It’s primary premise is this:
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists
Herein lies the peace of God

Another little gem is the first book in the series of “Conversations with God“. There are four books altogether, but the first one is the one that best resonated with me and provided some new insight for seeing spirit and God differently.
Of, course, I would also highly recommend you pick up my book, “Seeing God … perhaps for the first time“, and read through the 40+ chapters that provide many different perceptions on how to see God and Jesus differently, and how to fit them into your life in a new way.
